Pediatric Expansion
3-D Palatal Expanders
To the left is the upper Superscrew palatal expander. To the right is the lower Schwartz. The upper expander uses a small wrench to turn and activate. The lower uses a ‘key’ that fits into the small hole to turn and activate.
Revive Sleep Studio Children’s Expanders are the most up-to-date 3-D printed expanders for the most accurate fit.
Our pediatric patients see positive changes in behavior, sleep quality, and study habits in a matter of weeks to months of expansion. Expanders are for children 6 years and older. Earlier than this there is a higher risk of bone resorption and Guide therapy may be most appropriate until their 6 year molars erupt.
Children respond best prior to 11 years or age. Once the final adult teeth which are 12 year molars erupt, Adult Epigenetic Expander therapy is most appropriate to prevent bone resorption.
Duration:
3 months of activation and expansion
6 months of passive wear of the expanders
Time can be longer if there are delays during the first 3- months. Delays occur usually due to family travel schedule, logistical challenges, or just to allow the child’s body to adapt we sometimes take it slow.

If your child says it is painful, uncomfortable, too much pressure compared to the usual, please unturn it and wait 2 days before trying again.
If we did not get to see your child in-office or through virtual bite photo check-ups, please stop turning the expander until we get to check it.
